New Roaster: Bird Rock Coffee Roasters · San Diego, CA — Shipping Friday
New Roaster — May 2026

Twenty-three years of pulling the world's best coffees.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters joins Cometeer with five single-origins from the corners of the bean belt. Direct-trade since 2002 — now flash-frozen, sealed at peak, brewed by you in 60 seconds.

Why Bird Rock

Roaster of the Year, three times running.

Direct from the farm.

Twenty-three years of trips to Ethiopia, Kenya, Panama, Colombia, Guatemala. Every coffee on this menu is a relationship — built one harvest at a time.

Cup of Excellence regulars.

Bird Rock buys the top lots at the year's top auctions. Boquete Geishas, Kirinyaga AAs, Yirgacheffe naturals — the kind of cup that usually costs thirty dollars a brew.

Light, but never thin.

House philosophy: pull the most fruit out, preserve every floral note. Their cups pour like tea and hit like jam — exactly the kind of profile flash-freezing was built to protect.

The lineup

Five coffees. Five corners of the bean belt.

Each one was picked, processed, and roasted by hand at Bird Rock's Sorrento Valley roastery in San Diego. Cometeer flash-freezes the brewed liquid at peak — your job is to drop the puck in a mug and add water (or milk, or ice).

Inside the roastery

Twenty-three years. One philosophy.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters opened on La Jolla Boulevard in 2002 with a single drum roaster and a stubborn idea: that a coffee shop on the Pacific could buy as well as anyone in Oslo, Tokyo, or Melbourne.

Two decades and three "Macro Roaster of the Year" nods later, the model hasn't changed — sourcing director Chuck Patton still spends half the year on origin, and every coffee in this lineup was tasted, scored, and bought in person.

The partnership with Cometeer is the first time their full single-origin program has shipped flash-frozen. Same beans, same roast curve, just held in a frozen puck instead of a bag. Pour 6 oz of hot water over it and the cup arrives, exactly as the roaster pulled it off the cupping table.

Words from a founder
"We started Bird Rock to put cups of coffee in front of people that were better than anything they'd ever had. Twenty-three years later, that's still the only job."

Jeff Taylor, co-founder · Bird Rock Coffee Roasters
